Tentative Daily Schedule

Hi there!

So much to say, so much to write about, so much to do! I don’t know that I’ll be able to make it around to every single household before school begins, so if I don’t see you by Thursday morning, just know that I might drop by after school on Thursday or Friday.

I absolutely cannot wait for school to start. I love my coworkers dearly, but I’m ready to spend time with some students. Teacher meetings don’t seem to have enough body breaks built in…

I’ve had some questions about a snack calendar. As you know, I come from the world of intermediate, where we don’t often have assigned snack days. However, I was asked by my students last year (thank you, ladies and gentlemen! Can you believe you’ll be starting 5th grade in two days? I certainly can’t!) to consider implementing a calendar this year. I’ll probably have one ready on the Tuesday after Labor Day, because I know more students will register between now and then.

I was hoping to post the Word document I have for our daily schedule, but it appears that the FWPS Web site is down. So for now, I’ll just give you our general schedule:

8:45-9:00 Doors open, bellwork
9:00-9:15 Class meeting (on Day 2, we will have library from 9-9:30)
9:15-11:00 Daily 5 and Writer’s Workshop
11:00-12:00 Math core lesson
12:00-12:30 Lunch
12:30-12:50 Recess
12:50-1:20 Computational Math
1:20-1:50 Specialist (PE, music, art, library check-out)
1:50-2:00 Ten-minute Math
2:00-2:25 Recess
2:25-2:50 Science/Social Studies
2:50-3:20 Science/Social Studies continued (on Day 3, we have collaboration)
3:20 Dismissal

I always welcome visitors in our classroom, and I’m available before and after school to discuss any matters with you one-on-one. I prefer to meet with families after school (I’m an early bird and I use mornings to get in my teaching zone :)), but I’m flexible and will make anything work. On Tuesdays and often on Thursdays I have math team practices, so I’m sometimes difficult to track down on those days.

Ahh! School in two days! Can you believe it?!
