Choice Cycle 2: Moving Toward Independence
Day 6: Choose your own adventure today in writing workshop
Challenge: When you confer with your students or read their writing at night, write down problems they may have. Make a note of the commonalities that arise, as these make the best topics for strategy-lesson groups. After you have gathered a handful of possibilities, create a signup sheet that includes lesson topics and a short description of the teaching. Give students the responsibility of signing up for the lesson that will best meet their individual needs.
How did the small0group settings, with clusters of kids who were having the same issues, help your students to move forward with their writing today?
Would you try this again?
If so, when is the next time you anticipate offering these targeted lesson signups?
