Choice Cycle 2: Moving Toward Independence

Day 8: Deadlines: inspiration to write

Challenge: Create a calendar with students to establish possible deadlines throughout a writing project. A large calendar in the writing center is useful. The final deadline should be noted, while the other mini-deadlines could be established individually or communally. Be aware of students’ developing writing habits and whether these habits will help or hinder them in meeting the deadline.

How do you approach writing assignments?

Do you complete them as soon as possible, or is a deadline necessary to inspire you?

What habits help your students meet the deadlines?

What habits hinder them?

What are the handful of mini-deadlines that are appropriate to the grade level you teach?
