Mentors Cycle 3: Published Authors as Mentors
Day 1: Selecting meaningful mentor texts
Challenge: Talk with colleagues about books they’ve used successfully as mentor texts. Or scour the Kidlitosphere, which are book-related blogs authored by adults who work with children, for books you can introduce to your students for the purpose of teaching them to become better writers.
Did you discover any new authors whose work you really admire on your hunt for mentor texts?
What makes a book appealing both as a text to read aloud and as a text to study for the qualities of good writing?
