Choice Cycle 1: Physical Choices

Day 9 Caring enough to revise

Challenge: Talk to writers in your classroom about choosing a draft that is worthy of publishing. As a class, discuss the ways a writer would determine whether a draft is worth the work needed to revise, edit, and publish. For example, rereading all of the drafts in your writing folder would be one of the first steps in the process. Record these ideas on an idea sheet (Appendix B) Near the end of writing workshop, ask students to write a reflection about what draft they chose and why. Students could share these reflections during sharing time.

How did the work today energize students for revision, or did it deflate them?

Why do you feel this way?
