Choice Cycle 3: Living the Life of a Writer
Day 5: Knowing the audience
Challenge: As you confer with your students, make it a priority to ask them about audience. Some questions you can use to help you initiate conversation about audience are: “What kinds of people would you like to read your writing.” “How come you’ve chosen to write for this particular audience?” “Why have you angled your writing this way?”
What did you notice about your students’ responses to your questions about audience?
Were there any commonalities?
If your students weren’t clear about whom they’re writing for, then what kind of targeted, small-group lessons can you plan to address this so they can become more focused on audience going forward?
